5 Ways to Style A Detached Collar

The detached (or removable) collar has been making its way slowly into the spotlight over the last few years and I’m a huge fan! Collars are flying free! A great way to freshen up your wardrobe on a budget, these little collars can bring a bit of pizazz to any outfit and I fully intend to make the most of that as we enter autumn.

So, what’s so great about them? Well, take the one I’m wearing here from Mustard Monday, and you’ll soon see. They are adjustable and you can tie them however you may wish ( brush off those knot tying skills from your days in the Guides), alongside this you can wear them forwards, backwards, on-top or underneath garments and with a quick search you’ll soon find you can buy them in every colour under the sun too. They’re so versatile and a great way to breathe life to your wardrobe without needing to spend much at all, a way to refresh the outfits you wear on repeat. Not convinced yet? Here are just a few of the ways I like to style mine to add a fun, retro twist to some basic outfits. How would you wear yours?

Simple Tee

I love to just wear jeans and a t-shirt, it’s easy and requires little effort in the morning – a big bonus. However, sometimes I want to look like I’ve made a bit more of an effort and a simple way to do that, without actually making much more effort at all, is to whip out this collar, tie it up and off I go. It’s my current go-to outfit!

Chilled Layering

As the weather starts to get a bit chillier, I am beginning to add layers to the jeans and tee combo. It feels easy to chuck a collar on under a loose open shirt and just tie with a simple knot for a relaxed feel and I love the visual interest it adds to this slouchy outfit and ties it in with my black jeans.

Cosy and ‘Cool’

The collar can really help us out as we transition into our knitwear. Pop on your collar, with a cardigan over the top and you have an instantly cute top-half with no need to overheat from wearing too many layers. That’s right, no tees in sight – just you, your collar and your cardigan! Easy!

Howdy Shirt

Here I am wearing a white shirt and jeans for the hundredth time this year. A timeless combo, but one that can get a bit boring after a while. The collar adds life and fun into this outfit, giving it wild west vibes, or just making it double as smart. I’m certainly a fan of this update!

Snug as a Bug

Jumper season is finally incoming! I’m so excited and I think wearing this collar with my jumpers is going to add a lot of fun into my wardrobe this autumn/winter. It’s also a great way to experiment with new looks without stepping too far out of my comfort zone.

Which is your favourite look? Do you think you will try a collar? I definitely feel like this is one of the purchases that has had the most impact in my wardrobe over the last few months, making me stop and really look at what I have and how it can be styled in new ways. These were just a few ways that you could style this with a top and jeans, but honestly the combinations are endless. Expect to see a lot more of this collar in the coming months, maybe even years!
