Today I thought I’d share what I’d wear on a typical day of doing things around the house. This week has been a week of sorting and life admin and, as you know, I’m not a jogging bottoms person, so what do I wear on my down days? For these sort of days I think the most important thing is comfort and therefore my general ‘uniform’ seems to consist of a pair of trusty jeans, a baggy t-shirt and either a cosy jumper or cardigan. Yes, that is my idea of comfy clothing & let me explain why…
We have spoken before about how I’m not one to dress-down. In the world of Holly, pyjamas are a reserve for the evening time and my general love for black clothes means that I always look smarter than I intend to. Add my love of tucking t-shirts in, and you get one smart dress-down outfit. But, this is actually one of the things that I love most about fashion. Everyone has their little quirks that will make an outfit their own, be it tucking t-shirts in, wearing a tonne of jewellery, or always wearing heels. You may say individual style is a reserve for outside of the home, but I’d argue otherwise. We are always expressing our individual style – I mean if I had jogging bottoms I would definitely still be tucking my t-shirts into them and they’d probably be black. You see what I mean?
Without even realising it, you probably have your own little fashion quirks – your own set of unspoken rules that make your clothes SO you. Don’t think you have any? Think again! All you need to do is ask your friends and they will be able to tell you exactly what you do to make an outfit your own. Do you always buy long-sleeved tops, are you always wearing one specific colour, or maybe you like to wear that one ring on a specific finger on a specific hand? Whatever your quirks are, you should celebrate them as they are what gives you your unique sense of style. Good job, you have created your own style without even realising it!
Tee – Levi’s Batwing Logo T-shirt | Cardigan – Vintage | Jeans – Topshop Joni Jeans | Necklace – Accessorize St Christopher Pendant | Shoes – Old Zara
This is definitely my current go-to homey outfit, especially this super cosy cardigan for the ‘cooler’ days. I love how long and slouchy it is, and also that it is vintage, yet still in such good condition. I’d love to thank whoever owned this before me for taking such good care of it. Talking of things in great condition, it is time for you to meet my most recent charity shop purchase – my new Levi’s T-shirt. I spotted this in a Dog’s Trust shop in Shrewsbury a few weeks ago for just a couple of pounds. I was originally going to sell it on Depop (entrepreneur much!) but decided that it was too lovely to sell and have been wearing it ever since. It’s a classic and has been a great addition to my wardrobe!
I paired my t-shirt with my beloved, high-waisted Topshop Joni Jeans, which can make any outfit look instantly cooler and me look instantly taller. It is definitely a win, win. Alongside these jeans I am wearing my new favourite trainers, plain white, from Zara. I searched for so long for a cheap dupe for these amazing Common Projects trainers and once I’d changed this pair’s original stripy laces for some plain ones, I finally had the trainers I had been waiting for. Unfortunately my pair is now long gone, but I would really recommend finding yourself some plain, white trainers because they literally go with everything! From summer dresses to boyfriend jeans, these have been an absolute staple for me this summer, and I know they are going to stay that way for a long time to come.
So, my home day outfit may not be your cup of tea for a day of getting stuff done, but it certainly does the job for me, fitting in with my personal style as it does so too! What do you like to wear when you are doing life admin & do you know what your personal style quirks are? I’d love to know!
