Winter Boots Lovin’

It is now March and in the UK that means that last week the official first day of spring happened. Well, apparently. It actually couldn’t have felt less like Spring had arrived, as we were deep in snow and battling minus temperatures… definitely not spring weather. Luckily, I hadn’t yet broken out the denim jackets & pastel colours. Phew! In fact, instead I had made a new winter purchase that has proven to be perfect for our ongoing cold weather. Meet my new furry friends, the winter boots to trump all winter boots. You guessed it, it’s Dr Martens time!

If you have been reading this blog for any length of time then yo will know by now that I am a huge fan of the company Dr Martens. Not only are they timeless and a company that began in England (I love a good, homegrown company), but they are just, in the words of Ron Weasley, ‘bloody brilliant’. They really are. I mean they’d have to be for me, ‘cheapskate Holly’, to pay out for them. One things for sure they aren’t the cheap option, although I did managed to nab these in the sale so that made me very happy.  However, when buying from this brand I actually wouldn’t have even minded paying the  full price (shock) because these boots are built to LAST. If I had to choose one brand whose products really are value for money then Dr Martens would win hands down for me every time. I have pairs that are years old which barely even look worn – if that’s not a win then I don’t know what is.

I have always struggled with purchasing sensible shoes, you know the type that keep you warm or   are good for walking long distances in. The typical sensible shoe is practical and not pretty, and that is something that has never quote sat right with me. I never wanted my boring shoes to ruin my vibe and for a few winters now have trudged through with cool, but chilly feet. Little did I realise that I was just completely missing the trick with brands like Timberland, Dr Marten and Sorel (a bit out of my price range!) creating winter boots that are both good-looking and ‘sensible’. After scouring the internet for a good while the pair that I chose were the classic 1460 Dr Martens, in Mono Fur Lined. Yes, you read that right, fur lined. Let’s just say, I don’t think I am going to ever have cold feet again.

As well as keeping my feet toasty warm with their artificial fur lining, these shoes have a few other great features that I can’t help but share with you. Why am I not a spokesperson for Dr Marten, that is the question? Anyway, one of my favourite things about all of their shoes is the beautifully comfortable, air-cushioned sole. Not only are these shoes that you COULD walk around for hours in because of it, it also has a mean grip. This means no falling over on the ice for me this winter for once. Hallelujah! Another feature of these specific shoes that you may have noticed is that their finish is slightly different, almost velvety? This is due to the gorgeously soft, fine nubuck leather and I love how it makes them look just that little bit different. That and the fact they are solely black, with just a small white detail on the label just sold these boots to me. I like that this gives them a subtle cool edge that isn’t too flashy. Just some great boots doing their job.
So, we’ve established that I definitely love Dr Martens and I also that I have no excuse for complaining about having cold tootsies anymore. Let’s just say, I love these shoes so much that it almost makes me wish for bad weather so I can get outside in them. Almost, but not quite! How do you like to keep toasty warm in the winter? Let me know down below!
