Style File: Long Summer Days

It has been a busy ol’ summer so far and yesterday I took a day to sit back and recharge my batteries, catching up on some reading & telly watching. Bliss. I have always loved to express myself through my clothes and have never been one to stay in my pyjamas past 11:00 am. There aren’t many teens that you will meet that will tell you that! In this way have always struggled with choosing what to wear to ‘slob’ around in, mainly because it isn’t something I do a lot of. I enjoy being busy and stopping can be difficult sometimes. This outfit is about as chilled out as my clothes get before they become pyjamas and today I thought I would share with you why jogging bottoms & sweats are never really going to be my ‘thing’.

One of my friends once said to me that I always look like I am going out and to be honest I have always struggled with casual dressing – I mean it was only a few years ago that my teenage self decided to branch out from black jeans & invest in some blue! I know. I feel like if smart casual was a style, not just a dress code, then I may just be the ultimate embodiment of it. The reasons for this? 1. I love black clothes and they instantly give any look a smart edge, so therefore I end up looking smart even when I am only wearing jeans & a t-shirt and 2. I like to dress up. As Oscar Wilde once said …

“You can never be overdressed, or overeducated”

I like to look good, whether I am going out or staying in for the day, because I like to look good for myself and I think that the day I learnt this I became more confident in the clothes I wear. It is a really important step on the evolution of your individual style & the sooner you learn this, the sooner you will learn to love what you wear. Positivity people!
This is the sort of outfit that I would typically wear on a homey day, something easy that looks well put together but doesn’t require too much effort. A staple of these outfits are my 90s style black denim dungarees, which I bought from ASOS at the end of last year. Dungarees have long been a favourite of mine, I mean I started wearing them as a baby and have pretty much never stopped since then! To me they are such an easy item of clothing to style, all you have to do is chuck them on with any top & bravo, you literally have your outfit sorted for the day. Comfortable & fun, dungarees are a key part of my ‘relaxed’ wardrobe and I don’t know what I would do without them.
My favourite top to combine with these dungarees, and with everything really, is this striped long-sleeved top from COS. To me this is the ultimate stripy top and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it, after having been looking for the perfect one for a solid two months. COS clothes are always impeccable quality and this is no exception. It is made from almost 100% thick cotton and has gorgeous detailing, including a seam that runs down the middle of the back of the top, alternating the stripes so that the white meets the black and vica versa. It is warm, cosy and perfect for a day all about rest, relaxation & catching up on old episodes of Glee.

To finish off my home-day outfits I normally pair them with a pair of overly fluffy socks or my faux shearling, cream slippers from Primark. These slippers are so affordable and are actually memory foam. I know when these die from overuse that I will definitely be investing in another pair to keep my feet from getting cold. So there you have it, my go-to chill out outfit. I hope you enjoyed this look into my more casual wardrobe, if that even exists! I’d love to know what you love to wear on your days in, do you dress up or keep it casual? Just to let you know I won’t be posting next week, but after that I will back and bigger than ever. Can’t wait to see you then.

Love Holly x
