I don’t know about you but I have always found dressing for summer really difficult. Here in Britain we are lucky if get a few days of sunshine, so the month long heatwave we have been experiencing has really made me re-evaluate my summer style. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love the summer, but I am definitely more of a winter person when it comes to fashion, I am all about the layering and bobble hats! However, over the last few weeks I have had no choice but to venture into my (tiny) summer wardrobe and try to put together some relatively cool but collected outfits, and today I thought I would share one of my favourites with you.
I picked up this dress in H&M a couple of weeks ago and am obsessed with it, isn’t it just the coolest. It is a strappy, asymmetric, mid-length dress with a white on black dotted pattern (my fav) and two layers of pleating (try saying that quickly!). Essentially it has everything going on and I like that it is a bit different, this ain’t your typical summer dress people! You can wear it casually, as I am doing here over a plain white t-shirt, or you can dress it up with some heels and snazzy jewellery and you are hot to trot for any dinner or event. It is also worth noting, not that we are supposed to be talking about winter here (sorry not sorry), that this is the sort of dress you can wear all year round. All you need to do is add a black turtleneck, some boots and a leather jacket and you’re away. Brilliant.

I paired this black and white look with some pink Adidas Gazelles to add a subtle pop of colour, or maybe it was just because I am obsessed with them! You all know how much I love these trainers (I have gone on about them in so many posts) and they have definitely become my go to summer shoe, simply because the colour goes so well with EVERYTHING. Amazing. I really recommend.
As a general rule of thumb I like to keep it simple with jewellery and the piece I chose to pair with this outfit was no exception. I have had this simple, silver necklace for as long as I can remember and it seems to be one of those timeless pieces of jewellery that I always return to. It is great to have a simple necklace for summer when you don’t want to go too crazy with rings (hot hands) but want to add little something extra to your look and I have been wearing it pretty much non stop for the past week.
So there we have it, my spin on traditional summer dressing. I really feel like I am starting to find my feet with style in the sunshine, so let’s hope we get some more hot weather. I hope you have all been enjoying the sun. What are your go to summer outfits?
