I am no beauty guru, I will admit to that. I mean make-up is actually an area I really struggle with due to my eczema. It is hard to find products that agree with my skin and eyeshadow is an absolute no go for me, so I find bringing colour to makeup looks really difficult. Here’s where lips come in! One thing that I can experiment with without any worry is lipstick and I love it. Recently I have jumped right on the pink trend and today I am going to share with you what products I use to achieve a great pink lip.
The first step to any great lip look is the base. If your lips are dry and chapped then it is going to be hard to get a good finished look without some preparation first, we want this lipstick to glide on people! I know it seems tedious but don’t skip the most important step, trust me you will regret it. I like to start off my preparations with the Bubblegum Lip Scrub from Lush, it smells (and tastes) AH-MAZING and is the master exfoliator, soft lips here we come. After this I just apply some trusty aloe vera Vaseline and leave it to soak in whilst I do the rest of my makeup.
Now my lips are oh so soft, and yours are too, it is time to move onto primer. My favourites are the Topshop Lip Primer in Everlast and the Lip Tar by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. I received the latter in a Birchbox a few months ago and it turns out that, as well as being amazing, it is free from pretty much everything you might want to avoid, cruelty, gluten, silicon, the list goes on. Anyway, take your chosen lip primer and apply liberally because you want a good foundation to work on. Then leave it for a moment, it needs time to sink in, and gently remove any excess product.
Now onto the fun part, the colour! As I said, I have been loving pink, it seems to be the colour of the moment in every aspect of style and to be honest I am not complaining. I have long been a fan of Kate Moss’ range of Lasting Finish lipsticks for Rimmel, they are affordable and glide on to reveal the most beautiful colours. Although I own several of these lipsticks, the shade I have found myself reaching for is number 28, as pictured. It is a really bright baby pink and I love it.
Alongside this I have still been using my trusty Laqa & Co Cheeky Lip Pencil in Humble Brag (all of their products have the best names!). This is a really great product, not only because of its lipliner like consistency but because you can use it on your cheeks too. So useful when you don’t have time to be faffing around with loads of different products.
Apply your chosen lipstick colour onto you lips (if that isn’t obvious) and blot with a tissue to remove any excess. Then reapply and do the same. To finish my lips off I sometimes like to use a swipe of lightly colour lip balm to hold in the colour. The one I have most recently been reaching for is Calvin Klein’s Ultimate Edge Lip Gloss in Shades of Pink, it seems fitting! Then the final step I take it to tidy up the edges with a concealer, normally I use Lord & Berry’s Concealer Stick because it allows more precision due to the fact it is a pencil. And there you have it, your pink lip is complete.
I have been really enjoying experimenting with different lip looks and I hope this post will inspire you to do the same. What is your favourite makeup look at the moment?
